between lowering, slamming, stance, hella-flush, and whatever other weird suspension mods you kids are coming up with?
I mean, I think I know what all this stuff is, but maybe no? I keep seeing these “stance” dumps but about half the cars in them actually look pretty decent to me, just lowered and with some bigger wheels. Is there something I’m missing?

Based from observation:
Lowering/Slamming: simply bringing the car’s height down, “grounded to the ground”
Stance: Lowering + minimal camber (approx. 1-4 inches)
Hellaflush: Lowering + loads of camber! (approx. 5-over 9000 inches)
Another term within the culture is bagged, where the suspension’s height can be adjusted.

As someone (I gather) a little more in tune with the scene and the terms and whatnot, that’s pretty much dead on. Bagged comes from the use of air bags in the suspension for adjustment. Good job.

Hellaflush is when they camber out the wheels and stretch tires over wide wheels so that the rims appear flush with the wheelarches. Ruins performance, looks stupid, the improperly fit tires are dangerous and wear incorrectly
Slamming is when they lower it until it is just a barely off the ground. Unless they cut the springs or use cheap parts, the only downsides are a harsh ride, improper steering geometry, and difficulty going over bumps.
Who tf knows what stancing means. I think stancing a car is just changing the ride height for aesthetics.
Lowering is self explanatory.

Pretty much what I gathered. My impression was always:
Lowering: 1-3”
Slamming: 4”+, often times with airbags
Stancing and Hellaflush I was less sure of. I always associate Hellaflush with running wide rims and narrow tires, tucking them up in the wheel wells. But beyond that I don’t know much.

I lowered mine. Very slightly. The Eibach pro-kit springs did a 1.5 inch drop in the front and a 1.3 inch drop in the rear. Anything more than that is severely impractical for a daily driver, in my opinion.

To me the word stance refers to the actual ride hight of a car. At least that how I grew up with associating the word. An example would be that this cars stance is all wrong or, this cars stance is perfect etc. It doesn't really mean the car laying frame or has massive amounts of chamber.

In my lexicon:
Lowering: the act of lowering the suspension on a car, usually by the use of coil-overs. Generally improves handling.
Slamming: the act of lowering a car to where the frame comes as close to the ground as possible, done properly air suspension is required.
Stance: Originally just a descriptor of how a vehicles’ suspension was set up eg “agressive”, current usage is as a synonym of “hellaflush”
Hellaflush: the art of making a vehicle undrivable by increasing negative camber as far as possible, and fitting the narrowest tire on the widest wheel available. Bonus points are awarded for fitting the quarter panels in the gap between rim and tire. See also “wrecked”

Technically rims and tires flush with the quarter-panels are just flush. Hellaflush is like full retard, it’s above and beyond flush.

All but flush and Hellaflush have been pretty well covered, so I’ll toss my opinion in here.
Flush:
Hellaflush:

nothing, it is all garbage. Any suspension modification that reduces performance should get the owners license taken away and their car sold at auction to a better owner.

I agree, if the suspension mods don’t make the car handle better, the car is ruined! Just look at these two worthless pieces of shit! No one wants a car like that!

Lowered = lowered
Slammed: Lowered to the point that the bottom of the car is, or is nearly, touching the road
Stanced: Between lowered and slammed, with negative camber to give the car a nice “stance”
Hellaflush: lowered with a focus on minimal gap between tire and fender; often with negative camber, and very stretched tires

Question, do you have a flush or hellaflush car?
![]() 05/14/2015 at 19:12 |

No, I’m not into ruining cars...I have a soon to be slightly lowered on balanced coilovers car, and 2 stock height cars.

I said “reduces performance” not, “don’t make the car handle better”. Also, the first car probably drives a lot better than the boat it started as, and the second, I assume the suspension is somewhat performance related as it looks to be built to race. I hold to my statement.

The first car is the Hirohata Merc, built in the 50s. Heated and cut springs was the process of the day. Handling had zero to do with it, it was 100% about looks.
The second is a replica gasser built in 2012, the stock independent front suspension was removed in place of a 30s straight axle, and in back the suspension was jacked up to let the slicks clear the body without cutting. Even the biggest gasser fans will state that they are terrible to drive on the street, and don’t work as well on the drag strip as modern suspension tech.
My point is people have been modifying cars for lots of reasons for decades. And just because some do it to make their car look better(for their own version of better) instead of to make it perform better doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to own a car. Its their car, they can do whatever they want to it, no matter how stupid or asinine it may be.

Cool, don’t stance them. Have a good day.
